Basketball Host Lambton in Mid-Week Clash
Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Basketball teams continue their OCAA West Division schedules Wednesday night at the SportsPlex when they host Lambton College (Sarnia). The Women tip at 6:00pm followed by the Men's game at 8:00pm as part of Residence Night sponsored by the Saints Student Athletic Association Inc. who will be providing giveaways including four $100.00 scholarships, 400 free t-shirts and hot dogs for St. Clair students.
Wednesday is also the 15th annual Bell Let's Talk Day as part of their annual awareness campaign which highlights the progress that has been made and discusses what still needs to be done to support those with mental health challenges, including Canada's youth who are facing a growing mental health crisis.
The St. Clair Women (4-7, West 6th Place) hold the #10 spot in the most recent OCAA provincial rankings and will look to upend #7 Lambton (7-5, West 4th Place). The Saints lost 65-59 to the Lions on Oct. 30th in their previous Sarnia matchup early in the regular season.
3rd year transfer guard Kaelyn Batten (Windsor, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) is 3rd in league scoring and tops St. Clair with 16.2ppg to go with 4.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. 4th year guard Shae-Lyn Murphy (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) fills the stat sheet including team highs of 6.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.1 steals per game with a double-digit scoring average of 10.0ppg.
The St. Clair Men (11-2, West 2nd Place) are the OCAA's #2 ranked team and sit #6 team in the CCAA having beaten Lambton (5-8, West 6th Place) 91-68 in Sarnia on Oct. 30th.
The Saints have been riding the tremendous season of 4th year forward Mazin Tiea (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) who ranks 7th in provincial scoring with 17.0ppg to go with 8.8rpg (OCAA 5th) while converting 57.1% of his field goals (OCAA 3rd) and anchors the defensive unit with 3.5 blocked shots per game which leads the league by a wide margin. 4th year transfer guard Jacob Masters (Toronto, ON) is 11th in OCAA scoring netting 15.6ppg to go with 3.0 assists per game. 3rd year transfer guard Kyle Brown-Fazekas (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) records 14.7 points per game while adding 4.9 rebounds per contest. 3rd year transfer swing player Amari Frye (Ypsilanti, MI) remains consistent at 12.1ppg for the Saints but leads the team with 4.3 assists per game and adds 4.7 rebounds. 5th year swing player Darnelle Peddie (Pickering, ON) is the final double-digit scorer for St. Clair at 11.2ppg and is the OCAA's 2nd leading 3-point shooter making nearly 45% of his attempts.
