Humber
Tecumseh, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Baseball team's undefeated streak came to an end in their final game of the regular season as they settled for a split with Humber Polytechnic (Etobicoke) Saturday afternoon at Lacasse Park in Tecumseh. The Saints (17-1) won 3-1 in the opener before falling 10-7 to Humber (13-5) in the finale.
St. Clair went ahead 2-0 in the 2nd inning of game one and tacked on a run in the 4th as Humber could only muster their lone score in the 5th. The Hawks had little answer against starter Brady Knelsen (Leamington, ON, Leamington) who went the distance for the Saints after spreading out five hits and three walks over seven innings of work that allowed just one earned run. He collected his league leading 6th win while adding ten strikeouts to also become the top hurler in the category with 51 on the season. Colin Robinson (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) had the key single for St. Clair in the 2nd to score two runs which turned out to be the deciding hit.
The teams were tied 1-1 in game two before the Saints scored five times in the 2nd inning for a 6-1 lead. But St. Clair only added one more run in the 4th inning and permitted Humber to score in every inning the rest of the way including three times in the 7th that created the final separation. Humber took advantage of an uncharacteristic nine free passes from the Saints who were also outhit 12-10 in the contest. Rowan Glasgow (LaSalle, ON/Sandwich), Josh Anderson (Ajax, ON), Andrew Sleiman (Leamington, ON/Cardinal Carter) and Henry Real (Panama City, Panama) each had two hits in the game for St. Clair. Anderson led the Saints with three RBI and Real had a double and two RBI but fell short of the all-time OCAA hit mark by one finishing his regular season career with 89 total in four seasons.
St. Clair advances as the #1 seed to the OCAA Provincial Championship tournament with a 10:00am game on Friday at Sarnia's Stan Slack Field. The Saints will play the lowest remaining seed which will be determined from Thursday play-in games.
