Men’s Baseball Outlast Centennial to Open OCAA’s
Sarnia, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Baseball needed lots of offense Friday morning in their first game of the OCAA Championship but outlasted Centennial College (Scarborough) by a score of 10-9. The event is being played at Sarnia's Stan Slack Field in Errol Russell Park and the Saints now advance to the gold medal semi-final scheduled for 5:30pm Friday night against host Lambton but will likely be delayed due to the length of the opening games.
Centennial chased the St. Clair starter in the opening frame scoring four runs after a combination of walks, errors and key hits by the Colts. St. Clair responded with a 3-run bottom half and teams went scoreless for a two innings. The Saints scored six times in the 4th inning to gain firm control but allowed a 4-run 5th and Centennial tied it up in the 6th at 9-9. The deciding run came in the bottom of the 6th when OCAA Batting Champion Andrew Sleiman (Leamington, ON/Cardinal Carter) plated All-Rookie team selection Jordan Miller (Kitchener, ON) on an RBI single giving St. Clair a slim advantage. Centennial had the tying and winning runner aboard in the 7th, but Tyler Brown-Amlin (Windsor, ON/Sandwich) came in to shut the door securing the pitching save for the Saints.
Adrian Harrison (Essex, ON/Essex) was named St. Clair's Player of the Game after hitting a pair of doubles to go with two walks and two RBI to go with a run scored. Sleiman and Rowan Glasgow each also finished with two singles and an RBI for the Saints. Cameron Beale (LaSalle, ON/Sandwich) picked up the win in relief as the pitcher of record in the 6th inning.
