Eight Incoming Players Commit to St. Clair Men’s Baseball
Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Baseball team will have a chance to equal a record five straight OCAA Championships in 2025 and will do so with the help of eight incoming players ready to suit up for the Saints this coming fall season.
Only two local commitments are among the group and they both hail from the same house in Lakeshore with the signing of 5'9" outfielder Aaron Schweyer and 5'7" infielder Evan Schweyer. The soon to be St. Anne Catholic High School graduates have worked through the Tecumseh Rangers, Riverside Royals and Windsor Selects club programs in addition being competitive basketball players winning a WECSSAA Junior title for the Saints in 2022. They were both named an MVP of St. Anne basketball and the school's Junior Athlete of the Year while helping the Saints to an OFSAA Regional Baseball Championship last spring. Evan was also recognized as a WECSSAA Volleyball All-City performer and Aaron was a Basketball Coaches Award recipient.
Saints Head Coach Roberto Duncan commented on the twin brother duo, "Aaron and Evan bring much needed speed and athleticism to our team. Their above average defense will give our pitchers more confidence after the ball is put in play."
Aaron has chosen St. Clair's Business Administration-Accounting program academically while Evan will be enrolled in the Business Administration-Marketing program.
A pair of catchers will fill the void left by graduating perennial league All-Star Henry Real in the form of 6'3" Ryley Naughton (Mississauga, ON/St. Martin Catholic) and 5'10" Quintin McEwan (Guelph, ON/John F. Ross).
McEwan will start the Business–Marketing program this fall and was a 2022 Premier Baseball League of Ontario All-Star having played with the Guelph Royals, Midwestern Ontario Bearcats and Ontario Nationals club teams.
Duncan said of McEwan, "Quintin will provide more depth to our catching crew with some raw talent that we are excited to develop."
Naughton has experience was a multi-sport athlete with baseball experience the Mississauga Tigers High Performance Program, Brampton Royals and Ontario Royals. He was a Lacrosse MVP, Ultimate Frisbee and Curling Champion for St. Martin while helping his school to a third-place finish at OFSAA on the diamond. Naughton will be taking St. Clair's Pre-Service Firefighter Education and Training program.
Duncan praised Naughton by saying, "Ryley brings solid defense behind the plate and the versatility to play 1B in addition to above average bat to ball skills."
5'11" infielder Laurence Aurelio (Mississauga, ON/St. Martin Catholic) is a high school classmate of Naughton who will join him in the Pre-Service Firefighter Education and Training program. His club team experience is with the Fieldhouse Pirates and was a part of the third-place OFSAA team at St. Martin, but he also won a ROPSSAA Basketball Championship as a guard for the Mustangs.
Duncan complimented Aurelio saying, "Laurence is a middle infielder with the ability to drive the ball all over the field with some power. He is a key addition to our squad this fall."
6'3" first baseman Jacob Fields (Sarnia, ON/Northern Collegiate) starts the Protection, Security and Investigation program in the classroom at St. Clair this fall with recent club team experience as part of the Port Lambton Pirates where he won an OBA Championship title.
Duncan noted about Fields, "Jacob will provide some needed power to our line up with a lot of room for development. He can play at the corner infield positions as well as help our DH spot."
5'9" infielder Bryce Plane (Battle Creek, MI/Lakeview) transfers a year removed from Kalamazoo Valley CC (Kalamazoo, MI) were he spent a season. Plane was a 2-time All City, All-Conference, All-District player at Lakeview with club experience from Top Tier and WOW Factor. He will be enrolled in Computer Systems Technology-Networking academically.
Duncan said of Plane, "Bryce is a middle infielder who will spend most of his time at shortstop. His defensive skills will solidify our defense up the middle of the field."
Added to the pitching staff will be 6'1" lefthander Marquez Allard (Whitby, ON/St. Mary) who will be taking St. Clair's Sport and Recreation Management program. In recent summer seasons Allard has been a member of the Ontario Prospects as well as the Titans Baseball Club.
"Marquez is an always treasured left-handed pitcher with great command of his pitches," commented Duncan about Allard.
Duncan said of the incoming group, "We are excited to see what our new recruitment class will do for us next year. With many players graduating this year, we were able to rebuild the team and find key additions that will fit in with our current players and culture. We are sure that we have achieved just that with this group of players. We look forward to developing their talent to their maximum potential and continue a winning culture at St. Clair College."
