St. Clair Women's Softball Host Busy Weekend to Open Season

Windsor, ON – The new look St. Clair College Women's Softball team open their 2024 OCAA regular season with a pair of 3-team round robins at the SportsPark diamond on Saturday and Sunday.  The Saints are the reigning the back-to-back Provincial and CCSA National Championship title holders.

St. Clair faces Sheridan College (Brampton) at 11:00am on Saturday followed by a 3:00pm matchup with Mohawk College (Hamilton).  In between the Saints' games Sheridan will take on Mohawk as part of the 3-team round robin.    

On Sunday it will be a repeat of the format with St. Clair playing Humber Polytechnic (Etobicoke) at 11:00am before the Saints meet Fanshawe College (London) at 3:00pm.  Sandwiched in the middle at 1:00pm will be Humber taking on Fanshawe. 

The Saints return a pair of OCAA First-Team All-Star's in shortstop Shae-Lyn Murphy (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) and catcher Ashley Marchand (Fergus, ON) along with outfielder Judy Lafleur (Essex, ON/Essex) who was a Second-Team selection. 

The three other St. Clair veteran returnees include 3B Reese Grondin (LaSalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova), OF Ashley-Rae Brill (LaSalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) and OF/C Ireland Toohey (Windsor, ON/Holy Names). 

The Saints searched far and wide for fresh talent securing 1B/3B Ada Umerah (Maple, ON/Hodan Nalayeh SS), C/SS/OF Kamryn Coombs (Atwood, ON/Listowel District SS), 1B/OF Brooke Cameron (Rimbey, AB/Rimbey Jr Sr HS), P/1B Danna Juarez (Airdrie, AB/George McDougall HS), C/OF Zahnyah Jackson (Brampton, ON/St. Edmund Campion), P/INF Ashton Fong (Colwood, BC/Lambrick Park) and P/UT Kirsten Kipfer (Mitchell, ON/St. Michael). 

Local pickups include P/IF Molly Cacilhas (Essex, ON/Essex District), IF Chloe Cole (LaSalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) and 1B/OF Jayne Foreman (LaSalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova). 

As a bonus the St. Clair Softball Alumni will be coming back to campus on Saturday in a Charity Slo-Pitch game versus the Over 55 Blue Thunder which will start at approximately 5:30pm.  All proceeds and donations will benefit the St. Clair College Varsity Athlete Scholarship Fund.
