Saints Cruise to 2-0 with Win Over Quinte

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair Saints Football team moved to 2-0 on the season after an 83-0 lopsided win over the Quinte Skyhawks. A great showing for Saints Nation saw over 800 fans attend the Home Opener at Acumen Stadium.

The Saints scored early and often to take a commanding 35-0 lead after just one quarter of play. The points continued to come in the 2nd quarter as the Saints took a 56-0 lead into halftime. The second half saw an entire army of Saints players get some much-deserved game action and the lead grew to 66 after three quarters. A couple more scores in the 4th quarter extended the Saints lead to 83-0.

All three Saints Quarterbacks threw eight touchdown passes to seven different Wide Receivers and threw for a total of 369 yards. Maurice Sodja (Louisville, Kentucky) led the team in passing with 170 yards while throwing 4 touchdown passes and only 1 incomplete pass. Matt Guenette (Windsor, ON) threw for 3 touchdowns and Owen Mallott-Bennett (Chatham, ON) threw one as well. The seven receivers who recorded a touchdown were: Cameron St. Kitts-Park (Oshawa, ON) with two, Darius France (Windsor, ON), Tai Colquhoun (Windsor, ON), Malachi Jackson (Windsor, ON), Dayshawn Johnson (Niagara, ON), Alex MacLellan (Lasalle, ON) and Riley Sagriff (Kingston, ON). Running Back M.J Doyle-Marshall (Airdrie, AB) led the team in rushing again with 61 yards on 6 attempts and a rushing touchdown.

The Saints defense posted their first shutout of the 2024 season and held the Skyhawks under 100 yards of total offense and forcing 4 turnovers. The defense also scored two touchdowns of their own when Defensive Backs Gamy Kazadi (London, ON) and Cian Derbowka (Sault Ste. Marie, ON) returned their interceptions all the way to the endzone. Linebacker Carl Fabre (Windsor, ON) also had an interception of his own, while Jaylin Burnett (South St. Paul, Minnesota) forced a fumble and Asher Lavoie (Hamilton, ON) scooped it up. Burnett recorded his second sack of the season along with fellow Defensive Lineman Kendy Montoban (Paris, France). Linebackers Ryan Najim (Leamington, ON) and Ian Curtis (Milton, ON) also recorded sacks for the Saints.

St. Clair will head on the road to Brampton to take on the GTA Grizzlies next Sunday, September 1st at 1:00pm.
