Men’s Basketball Overwhelm Redeemer
Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Basketball team were unstoppable in their final regular season game Saturday night at the SportsPlex overwhelming Redeemer University (Ancaster) by a score of 124-85 finishing their West Division schedule in 2nd Place with a 16-2 record.
The Saints led wire to wire and came out firing taking only three minutes to build a 17-1 lead resulting in 36-17 differential entering the second quarter. The gap widened further with St. Clair comfortably ahead 70-37 by halftime after shooting nearly 60% from the floor which included 6-of-12 from deep in the frame. The Saints had their highest output in the third quarter scoring 37 points and led by as much as 54 points before taking a 107-57 advantage into the fourth. Redeemer closed with a good effort but would not threaten St. Clair down the stretch as the roster shared playing time.
The Saints finished with 17 triples shooting over 47% from distance but were +20 in rebounding over the smaller Royals and scored 56 points in the paint. A season high 37 assists allowed all 11 St. Clair players dressed to notch a basket and outscored Redeemer 44-23 in reserve points.
Jacob Masters (Toronto, ON) scored a team high 30 points for the Saints and was on the mark from deep with 7 makes from beyond the 3-point arc. St. Clair's Mazin Tiea (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) was efficient with 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting but helped his teammates with 5 assists. Ethan Reid-Massiah (Toronto, ON) chipped in with 10 points off the bench and Darnelle Peddie (Pickering, ON) ended his day with 12 points for the Saints. Kyle Brown-Fazekas (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) and Amari Frye (Ypsilanti, MI) each had 11 points for St. Clair with Frye recording a double-double after dishing out 12 assists. Malcolm Perrin (St. Catharines) had a fine game leading the Saints in minutes and rebounds (15) to go with 9 points off the bench.
St. Clair awaits the final OCAA regular season placings but will host the 7th Place team from the East Division on Saturday at 3:30pm in a crossover playoff matchup.
