Men’s Basketball OCAA Championship Bound

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Basketball team (18-2) advanced to their fourth straight OCAA Championship Final Four with a 103-88 quarterfinal win over Lambton College (Sarnia) at the SportsPlex Saturday night.

The game was competitive in the early stages with Lambton taking a small lead off the tip.  The teams would share the lead three times as the game seesawed back and forth before the Saints took a 23-22 advantage at the end of the first quarter.  Lambton scored the opening bucket of the second to hold their last brief lead until St. Clair took control.  After shooting nearly 58% from the field a 34-point second frame allowed the Saints to enjoy a 57-40 lead by halftime.  St. Clair followed it up with an 8-for-13 (61.5%) showing from beyond the 3-point arc in the third quarter to put the game out of reach which ballooned the differential to as much as 24 points and an 88-67 lead heading to the fourth.  Lambton made some inroads down the stretch but never really threatened the outcome.

The Saints finished with a 52% conversion rate from the field including tying a season high 17 triples and 40 points inside the paint.  Lambton outrebounded St. Clair 33-27 but gave up 22 points off 19 turnovers in the contest.

Jacob Masters (Toronto, ON) had a game high 26 points for the Saints while shooting 7-for-9 from deep to go with 3 assists and 3 steals.  Amari Frye (Ypsilanti, MI) cashed in four makes from distance as part of his 24 points for St. Clair adding 5 assists and 2 steals.  Kyle Brown-Fazekas (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) had another tremendous overall game with 19 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals for the Saints.  Ethan Reid-Massiah (Toronto, ON) chipped in with 14 points off the St. Clair bench and pulled down 3 rebounds. 

As the top seed in the West Division Humber Polytechnic (Etobicoke) will play host to the OCAA Final Four Provincial Championship.  St. Clair will face Durham College (Oshawa) on Saturday in the second semi-final which tips at 6:00pm at Humber's North Campus Athletic Centre gymnasium.  Humber will play Georgian College (Barrie) at 3:30pm in the other semi-final on Saturday.
