Bio

Sykes is an Oldcastle, ON native and began with the Men’s Basketball program as an Assistant Coach in the 2017-18 season.  He assumed his current post as Co-Head Coach prior to the 2018-19 season and serves as the main contact for recruiting in addition to taking a lead role in video analysis with the Saints Men’s Basketball Coaching Staff.  

Sykes has helped guide the Men’s Basketball team to the playoffs in each season and to the OCAA Provincial Championship tournament five times to go with two CCAA National Championship appearances.  Under his direction the Saints earned a Provincial and National Silver Medal in the 2021-22 season followed by OCAA Gold in 2022-23 to go with an OCAA Bronze Medal in 2024-25. 

Entering the 2025-26 season he along with Co-Head Coach Brendon Seguin have the 2nd highest regular season winning % in Men’s Basketball program history at 77-26 (.748) and their 133 overall wins also ranks 2nd all-time.  Together they have the most playoff wins in program history with a 16-9 record in the post-season. 

Sykes graduated from St. Clair’s Sport and Recreation Management program and played four seasons of varsity baseball for the Saints.  A mainstay at the shortstop position he helped the Saints to 106 wins with four championship seasons that included a CIBA National Championship in 2012 and was recognized as the Saints Rookie of the Year.   He was also part of three OCAA Gold Medals (2013, 2015 & 2016) and an OUA/OCAA Championship in 2013.

Sykes is a St. Thomas of Villanova High School product participating in multiple sports including baseball (4 years), basketball (3 years), and hockey (2 years).  While playing for the Tecumseh Thunder baseball club program he won a Junior National Championship in 2013 and a Canadian title as a Senior player in 2016. 

Sykes is also a staff member with the St. Clair Green Giants Summer Collegiate program working as one of the Directors of Team Operations.
