Women’s Basketball Struggle in Second Half
Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Basketball team (2-3) struggled in the second half Saturday afternoon at the SportsPlex on their way to a 74-55 loss to Fanshawe College (London).
There were several lead changes in the early stages before Fanshawe went ahead 21-17 after the first quarter. The Saints overtook the visitors midway through the second quarter and built a 6-point lead (37-31) with under two minutes to play in the half but settled for a 37-33 intermission advantage. St. Clair's shooting went cold in the second half as Fanshawe seized control with a 54-50 cushion entering the final frame. However, the Saints shot a paltry 19% from the field in second half and only scored five more points down the stretch.
St. Clair was outrebounded 47-36 in the contest and gave up 16 second chance points in addition to being outscored 34-20 in the paint. The Saints did make ten triples in the game and scored 19 points after forcing 26 Fanshawe turnovers.
Kaelyn Batten (LaSalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) led St. Clair with 12 points and added 5 assists along with 3 steals. Shae-Lyn Murphy (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) was the other Saint in double figures finishing with 11 points to go with 4 assists and 4 steals. Janae Smith (Warren, MI) had a notable game with 9 points and 8 rebounds for St. Clair.
The Saints continue their regular season schedule at home next weekend hosting Mohawk College (Hamilton) Friday night and then Niagara College (Welland) Saturday afternoon at the SportsPlex.
