Women’s Basketball Upset by Sheridan

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Basketball team gave up a late run and dropped their OCAA West Region record to 4-6 after a 67-65 loss to Sheridan College (Brampton) Saturday afternoon at the SportsPlex.

In a relatively high scoring first quarter the Saints made four triples on their way to a 23-20 lead entering the second after shooting 57% from long range and nearly 54% overall.  St. Clair was in firm control by halftime with a 39-30 advantage before the teams played even (15-15) in the third frame.  But Sheridan doubled up the Saints in the fourth (22-11) and overcame a 13-point deficit in the final eight minutes which included scoring the last six points of the game.

Even though St. Clair won the rebounding war 38-27 and outscored the visitors 17-2 off the bench, Sheridan took advantage of 18 fouls that produced five more free throw points and scored 34 in the paint.  Sheridan also forced 26 turnovers from the Saints who did manage to make 11 shots from beyond the arc.    

Lily Collins (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) led St. Clair offensively with a game high 20 points including four 3-pointers while teammate Shae-lyn Murphy (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) notched a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds to go with 6 assists. 

The Saints finish their weekend homestand on Sunday against Humber Polytechnic (Etobicoke) which tips at 2:00pm.
