Women’s Basketball Threaten Humber

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Women's Basketball team put a scare into nationally ranked Humber Polytechnic (Etobicoke) Sunday afternoon at the SportsPlex but could not pull off the upset eventually falling 67-56.    

The Saints forced nine Humber turnovers in the first quarter and took a slim 16-15 into the second frame.  St. Clair had their largest lead at 20-15 after scoring the opening two buckets of the second but Humber responded with a 13-2 run to close out the half up 32-25.  The Saints fought back to within a score several times in the third quarter however Humber found a way to enter the fourth up 47-38.  St. Clair fell behind 61-49 with just under three minutes to play and would come no closer than five points down the stretch. 

The Saints did score 24 points after generating 28 Humber turnovers but were badly outrebounded 51-31 in the contest.  St. Clair could not rely on the deep ball in the game and only made 5 triples while Humber converted 10. 

Kaelyn Batten (LaSalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) led the Saints with 17 points while adding 4 assists and 4 steals but none of her teammates reached double figures. 

Lily Collins (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) chipped with 9 points to go with 5 assists while Shae-lyn Murphy (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) had 8 points and 6 rebounds for St. Clair.  Desiree Byrd (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) had a noteworthy game corralling 12 rebounds and added 8 points and 4 steals for the Saints. 

St. Clair will have some time off this coming weekend before hosting Lambton College (Sarnia) on Jan. 22nd
