Women's Soccer Suffer Tough Opening Loss at Nationals

The St. Clair Saints women's soccer team got off to a tough start in their first ever CCAA National Championship on Tuesday morning in Red Deer, Alberta.

The Saints fell 1-0 to the ACAA Champion Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics in the National Quarter Final.

After getting off to a slow nervous start the Saints played much better after the opening 15 minutes. However, St. Clair could not find the back of the net against a great keeper from the Mystics as she stopped a couple of point blank chances from in tight. The Saints misfortune also included a cross bar and a post. MSVU scored the winning goal early in the second half.

Victoria Walsh was named the player of the game for St. Clair while keeper Morgan Gillis was named the top player for MSVU.

St. Clair will now attempt to win a Bronze Medal playing in the Bronze Quarter Final against the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder on Thursday at 12 Noon Eastern Time. The Thunder are the Alberta Conference Champions.
