Cross Country Fair Well in Host Meet
Windsor, ON – St. Clair College hosted the first event of the OCAA Cross Country season Saturday at Windsor's Malden Park in hot conditions as 14 schools from across Ontario participated in the meet. The Saints were a little shorthanded due to injury but still managed a 3rd Place finish in the Women's team event while the Men were 7th.
The St. Clair Women's team was led by 4th year runner Victoria Horrobin (Wallaceburg, ON) who crossed the line in the fourth position with a time of 24:40 over the 6km course in a field that featured 47 participants. Melody Knight (Tecumseh, ON/Tecumseh Vista) came across in 13th place for the Saints in 27:59 followed closely by teammate Justine Abbott (Wyoming, ON) who was 14th with a time of 28:02. Kendra Bell (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) was 29th in 31:11 and St. Clair rookie Emersyn Grondin (Tecumseh, ON/Tecumseh Vista) placed 30th in 31:16 to round out the Women's team finishers. Camryn Crawford (Kemptville, ON) did not compete for the Saints Saturday due to injury.
On the Men's side 1st year runner Melein Keflay (Windsor, ON/Assumption) was the earliest Saint to cross the line in a time of 30:11 which was good for 22nd place. Noah Nicoletti (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) came in 25th place with a time of 30:39 for St. Clair as teammate Wesley Hearn (Windsor, ON/Sandwich) completed the 8km course in 34th position stopping the clock at 33:26. Daniel Herrera (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) finished in 56th place with a time of 39:49 in a field of 63 entries. Russell Niedre (Ottawa, ON) and 2019 Provincial Champion Carter Free (Napanee, ON) could not compete for St. Clair this weekend.
The St. Clair Cross Country program will continue their season schedule next week on Sep. 27th at the Seneca College Invitational Meet in King City, ON. The Saints will play host to the CCAA National Championships Nov. 9th at Malden Park.
