Cross-Country Land Top Runners
Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Cross-Country team landed a pair of top male runners heading into the 2025 fall season with the addition of local speedster Brendan Currie (LaSalle, ON) and out of town standout Daniel Barnes (Iona Station, ON).
The 5'5" Currie is set to graduate from St. Thomas of Villanova where he was an honour roll student while winning the SWOSSAA Cross-Country title the past three years as the school's Junior and Senior MVP. He also was the Villanova's Novice and Junior MVP in Track before becoming an OFSAA Steeple Chase finalist. He even found time to make an impact as a distance runner competing for the Border City club program.
Currie chose to pursue a diploma in St. Clair's Child and Youth Care program and will begin his studies this fall.
Newly minted St. Clair Cross-Country Head Coach Josh Zilles was thrilled about the signing stating, "Brendan is a strong runner with excellent endurance and a great attitude. He's an extremely nice kid who fits in well with the team, and he's just scratching the surface of his potential. Brendan's ceiling is very high, and we're excited to help him keep developing."
The 5'10" Barnes was an MVP of his cross-country and track teams at West Elgin SS in addition to being named the Bruce McPherson award winner which goes to the top track athlete. He also ran for the London Western track and field club program while adding several podiums in triathlons and road races.
Barnes will be enrolled in St. Clair College's Sport and Recreation Management program beginning this fall.
Zilles complimented Barnes by saying, "Daniel is a talented middle-distance runner with a strong work ethic and a great team-first attitude which is exactly the kind of athlete we want in our program. We're looking forward to seeing him grow and make a positive impact both on and off the course."
