Men’s Basketball on the Mark in Win over Sheridan

Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Basketball team raised their OCAA West Division record to 10-1 after a surgical 108-96 homecourt win over Sheridan College (Brampton) Saturday afternoon at the SportsPlex.

The Saints were comfortable out of the gate again shooting nearly 61% from the floor overall including five makes from 3-point range (62.5%) for a 34-19 lead entering the second quarter.  St. Clair increased that gap to 57-37 by halftime which led to their widest margin of 22 points early in the third quarter.  Sheridan started to respond winning the third (25-24) but even six triples by the Bruins down the stretch could only get themselves to within eleven points in the late stages.

St. Clair shared the ball for season high 32 assists in the contest but dominated the key for a 48-28 advantage in points around the basket.  15 triples by the Saints negated Sheridan's 12 more shot attempts as they were held to under 38% shooting overall.

Amari Frye (Ypsilanti, MI) and Mazin Tiea (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) each scored a game high 24 points to top St. Clair offensively.  Frye had an impressive six makes from long range and added 5 assists while Tiea had 5 rebounds and 4 blocked shots.  Jacob Masters (Toronto, ON) converted five triples on his way to 21 points with 4 rebounds and 4 assists for the Saints.  Kyle Brown-Fazekas (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) reached double figures with 10 points while adding 5 assists for St. Clair with teammate Darnelle Peddie having a notable game with 8 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds.

St. Clair tips at 4:00pm against undefeated Humber Polytechnic (Etobicoke) on Sunday at the SportsPlex in the biggest game of the season that will surely help decide the OCAA pecking order.
