Men's Soccer Earn Point on Weekend

The St. Clair College men's soccer team opened their OCAA schedule this past weekend as they hosted two matches at Acumen Stadium.

On Saturday afternoon, the Saints took on the Redeemer University Royals (Ancaster) and suffered a tough 3-1 loss.

St. Clair took the lead on a nice play as Seve Oglan (Windsor; St. Joseph's) converted a cross from Paolo Davia (Windsor; St. Joseph's) in the 31st minute. Redeemer tied things up in the 36th minute putting a rebound home. The Royals went up 2-1 in the 49th minute after St. Clair keeper Brandon Gaudreau (Windsor;  St. Joseph's) turned the ball over and left an open net for the Royals player. Redeemer put another one in the back of the net in the 64th minute to go up 3-1. The Saints had 18 shot attempts while Redeemer had 10. Redeemer keeper Matthew Derks was outstanding through the game making 8 saves with many of them from close range.

On Sunday afternoon, the Saints hosted the Mohawk Mountaineers (Hamilton) and rebounded with a 2-2 draw.

Mohawk went up 2-0 on two penalty kicks in the 32nd and 40th minute after St. Clair had possession for most of the half.  St. Clair finally got in the board on the 49th minute on an own goal that was last touched by Nick Rahie (Leamington; Cardinal Carter).  The Saints finally tied the match up on a tally by Nick Moscatello (Windsor; Holy Names) after a nice cross by Guilherme Silva (Sao Paolo; Brazil) in the 90th minute. St. Clair had a great chance to win the match two minutes later when they hit the crossbar on a header after a great cross. Clair dominated play for most of the match with 24 shot attempts compared to 6 for Mohawk. However, the Saints struggled to finish around the goal with many great chances.
