Men’s Basketball Earn Comeback Win over Mohawk
Windsor, ON – The St. Clair College Men's Basketball team pulled one out of the fire Friday night at the SportsPlex managing a 96-89 comeback win over Mohawk College (Hamilton) to keep their undefeated record at 7-0 atop the OCAA's West Division.
The Saints took a 23-18 lead over Mohawk after the first quarter before the teams played even in the second as St. Clair took a small 43-38 advantage into the halftime locker room. Mohawk came out firing in the third quarter shooting over 63% from the field on their way to a 71-62 lead heading to the fourth. But the Saints used an 18-3 run to start the final frame that turned the tables, and they never relinquished the lead down the stretch.
The teams were statistically close in most categories and neither team shot well from long range but St. Clair outscored Mohawk 54-40 in the paint and 41-25 off the bench. The Saints also had a good day at the free throw line converting nearly 78% on 21-of-27 shooting.
Kyle Brown-Fazekas (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) led St. Clair with 20 points and helped his teammates with 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals who was one of six Saints to reach double figures. Mazin Tiea (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) scored 12 of his 16 points in the pivotal fourth quarter for St. Clair adding 7 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots. Ethan Reid-Massiah (Toronto, ON) equaled his highest output of the season with 13 points off the bench as did Galdo Tutu (Windsor, ON/Kennedy) who added 5 rebounds for the Saints. Amari Frye (Ypsilanti, MI) joined the bench brigade with 11 points to go with 3 assists as Darnelle Peddie (Pickering, ON) was just shy of a double-double with 10 points and 9 rebounds while dishing out 5 assists for St. Clair.
